Seven Essentials to Be a Hero to your Kids
By Mark Merrill
What a great Father's Day gift! Mark has written a book just for dads. Being a parent is not easy. We all need reminders of how to actively love our children the best we can, as well as new strategies and tips for how to do this. Included in this book are 5 chapters that help dads (and mothers!) analyze who they are and how they should act.
My favorite part about this book are the questions at the end of each chapter - “Huddle Up and Ask Your Child”. Asking children directed questions about our relationships is not easy, but with the help of these questions, I hope many fathers will have meaningful, life-changing conversations with their children.
Thanks Thomas Nelson!

Little Cub asks deep, everyday questions to his knowledgeable Grampa, who in response teaches Little Cub of God’s special love for us.

The concepts in this book are sound and Biblical. God’s love is hard to explain and understand, but it is great to teach young children the concept early and give them a lot of time to grasp the concept.

I received this book first from Blogging for Books, and in the next week I was given it (and it’s sister book) at a baby shower, and in the next week my church gave me a copy. Changing Lives.
By Dave Sterrett and Doug Bender, Forward by Colt McCoy
Many stories are never told. Or never heard. I Am Second gives readers a chance to hear life changing stories - along with the reasons behind these life changing stories. Stories are told of the famous and un-famous, drug addicts, athletes, rock stars, and others in-between and how their lives have been changed forever by Christ.
I Am Second is an easy read. The chapters are short and well written. I don't typically enjoy books of "short stories" and was hoping this book would appeal more to me. I was hoping to hear life changing stories that weren't as dramatic, that involved everyday people (like me!) - people who may have been struggling in their relationship or came to know Christ in unusual, relatable ways. To read a short story or two from this book was enough . It is a book better enjoyed in chunks.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com <http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program. I am very excited to try some new recipes from this great cookbook.

The book starts with an introduction to vegansim, explanations of strange sounding foods, and then jumps into delicious sounding recipes. This is a greatly recommended cookbook to those who are into cooking new, healthy dishes (that are often expensive to prepare). Enjoy!

Thanks Thomas Nelson!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. Grady was born for the stage! And Floyd was born to make money. Put together, the two make an interesting “family”, with Floyd as the ringmaster and “Grado” as the specimen people pay to see. When times get hard, the two conjure up a mighty plan for their best performance yet...

Rogers has written a fresh story. It is unique and fun to read. The demeanor in which he writes is not by the books – words are purposely misspelled and taken out of context – adding to the story.

This was not a book that just captured me and I couldn't put it down, but it was a good, easy read. I would recommend it for middle or high school ages verses adults. Rogers is creative and imaginative, and the book concludes with a simply Beautiful ending. :)

Thank you Blogging for Books for this free book!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 208px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhJ4y9EltZNwiC7QjZveXv6RJAkCHLAp5E1atD0purGVFaFxdZPvgWPFxeTzWBgTCCUdxX65Xetl-sJiGFgiW0tGjuyqPjAcLj6V_vq7qUASXMwrbQHV-FkcnstNwhum4o_c9oRLOxSVgx/s320/Charlatans+boy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579548215451693394" />Mrs. Metzgerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17856065886658369543noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690322262188269832.post-30518625338589982282011-02-09T13:50:00.001-08:002011-02-09T13:51:56.514-08:00There's Hope!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv-P-V9Tu8SCT5wP49SWH_1Z3O0_k-glQiauGCk4umq7Ndyxc5Kn2XvYdetW31b5lPjMXgt0X2m8KyW01f-b0Cm84HTkwJtHL9gmdcXdjBn8yxzOJmdum1JUWucgjPk0gf0VVIQ75NmFux/s320/41Gw5xGktfL._SL500_AA300_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5571810824175181026" />
Same Life, New Story
By Jan Silvious

We can learn so much from the past, even if the subjects are from before Jesus walked the Earth! The Bible does not tell stories from many women, but the stories it does tell are remarkable. Jan has wonderfully written of the situations the following women experienced: Naomi, Leah, Rahab, Deborah, Hannah, Anna, Jehosheba, Abigail, Naaman, and Elizabeth. Each women knew that life on Earth is temporary and was able to push through or move on after less than ideal conditions.
I do not have a past I need to run away from or a dramatic situation I cannot deal with. I know that life is very hard without God and that I need to turn to him for my every care and concern. Reading these amazing stories just drives it home that even after a bad day at work, life goes on. Even after a small fight with my friends or husband, there are good things to come. I will definitely let my friends and family borrow this great read.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. Randy Alcorn has written a spiritual love story that all need to experience. He brings Nick to the edge of a deep, dark chasm, relating spiritual truth in physical words. Nick is simply a character, a toy in the story, symbolizing you and me. Just when Nick thinks there is no hope, circumstance that he cannot yet understand develop that put him in his place, give his life purpose, and show him a love greater than any experienced before.

The pages will fly by when you dive into this “story”, written like fiction, but portraying real, deep purpose. Twelve original illustrations depict the reality of our spiritual battle and help to set the scenes as we put ourselves on the edge of the same chasm Nick experiences. If you are looking for an easy read or depth – dive on in.

No book better shows the love of Jesus in a physical, understandable way. I love that Nick goes through life with a mask over his eyes – not really understanding what he is experiencing, but moving forward all the same. Even after his up-close-and-personal experience with Jesus, he does not full grasp what has just happened. Discover God and Jesus in a personal way in this wonderfully put together adventure.

Blogging for Books - Thank you for this free book! We all know someone who could use a Bible! This is no exception. The Family Life Marriage Bible will be a wonderful tool for those married for any period of time! We can always learn more and more from God's word. I am not a scholar, and the devotions and insights provided in this tool are incredibly useful.
I cannot wait to go to a friend's wedding this coming summer and give them this Bible! Putting God at the center of your marriage is so important, and I believe this doesn't start with reading one of the MANY How To books out there, but it starts with reading God's word and applying his principles to your marriage. Marriage is not new. The concepts behind what makes a good marriage and the roles we should take are recorded over and over in scripture. The Family Life Marriage Bible will be a treasure for those who put their relationship in God's hands.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. The Shooks provide great advice and information for doing the easy and hard things that will strengthen relationships. The book is meant to be read in 30 days, each day consisting of 5 or 6 pages of personal stories and practical advice. Each chapter is completed by a Love at Last Sight Challenge to push your relationships to that next level.

The Shooks have give us great information, but instead of a 30 day journey, I would have gotten a lot more out of this book as a year long journey. So much of the advice is wonderful and takes TIME. It is hard to just take note of how to change relationships without having the time to put it into affect. I love the idea - I want to pass it along to friends who often seem distracted by their children or computers or tv. A simple life filled with friends and not technology or shopping is so rewarding.

Take the advice given by the Shooks to heart - you will become a better friend and encourage the same in others!

I received this book from Blogging for Books. I love not having to put down a book part way through in response to the obscenities...thank you! Raleigh works for the FBI and has just moved home after a transfer to Washington, and she immediately gets put on a case involving a rapper in a historical Eastern setting. As I have never really been out East, it is hard to imagine the rich culture and beauty – and also the racism involved. Giorello paints a beautiful picture of Virginia in this easy to read page turner.

I liked this book, I wouldn't say I loved it. The plot was good and well executed, but I felt that when a big turn in the book took place, there wasn't a lot of gusto leading to it or explaining it. I would have loved to read an extra 50 pages to have more things explained, such as the history of the gang or the others involved in the drama.

Thanks LitFuse for this book!Mrs. Metzgerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17856065886658369543noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690322262188269832.post-79412234863887389402010-12-27T08:02:00.000-08:002010-12-27T08:03:27.380-08:00Need help reading the Bible?<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi8S8pbQyGIuDgjCePFf3WZpD2AZ_jsFVHtfqvQhFo-Gbss1xxM3uzbJsqbF2lVXE8iiegYNxAcoWCnccm1m1Mv9oHsaQ3DlTNav4y15JPNkNVcRQTAFfFO3YralmMUoGc23AjXcAHCZ19/s320/_240_360_Book.339.cover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555393288049498354" />
Nelson's Biblical Cyclopedic Index
“Best Bible Subject Index Ever”
by Thomas Nelson

I am so grateful to receive this resource as it is my first cyclopedic index and Bible studying tool! Each page has various Life Lessons about the corresponding scripture, describing the situation, observation, and Max Lucado's inspirational notes, application, and exploration (which relates to various Bible verses that go along with the passage). Thank you so much Thomas Nelson for this special Bible!

I will be passing this Bible on as a special gift to a friend. To me, study Bibles need commentary and insights to the verses, which I don't believe this Bible has enough of. It is instead centered on inspiration and application. It's great, I just wouldn't refer to it as a study Bible. Enjoy!

Thanks Thomas Nelson!!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. Nettelhorst

This is a beautiful Old Testament paperback devotional. Each day's reading is broken into two halves - a passage of scripture and a devotional drawing from the reading. The days are not numbered by the date, but simply by a number (1-365), which I enjoy because it is hard to start a book on January 1st ! This is strictly an Old Testament devotional, and all the readings come from those books. The author wanted to show us who God is, not Jesus, and what those words can mean to us.

The God of the Old Testament is very different from the God of the New Testament. The laws and rules of sacrifice and daily practices were well communicated and strict. So many signs from God were miraculous and black and white. God loved his people, but they did not always love him. This is a great devotional diving into many of those short passages that are often looked over as we read the Old Testament!
a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFuzv34RW5P-qf0Xk0OsURFqnlg_VYEb1TzZ2BdhuVF6W8cDSN6_mU9FPsUgY_je7gm3_sLyV0AIa05i3Q4TU0RdC1d-FQ6cJ5YRDt8bdaBHCsaLExCwq2ECm6dLOn1PpZ55I_hKMA1Glg/s1600/_225_350_Book.275.cover.jpg"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFuzv34RW5P-qf0Xk0OsURFqnlg_VYEb1TzZ2BdhuVF6W8cDSN6_mU9FPsUgY_je7gm3_sLyV0AIa05i3Q4TU0RdC1d-FQ6cJ5YRDt8bdaBHCsaLExCwq2ECm6dLOn1PpZ55I_hKMA1Glg/s320/_225_350_Book.275.cover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5545408043152872338" /><
Thanks Thomas Nelson!!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program. I hope 2 year old Wynter is going to love these beanbags...not that she can read them, but I'm sure she can throw them!

Fabric paint is so easy to use and looks amazing. I want to stretch fabric over old frames and paint either last names or some quotes on them. The words take a little time to prepare as they are printed on card stock, traced onto freezer paper, then cut out with box cutter or razor. The freezer paper can be ironed on to fabric (waxy side down!), and peels right off after the paint dries!Mrs. Metzgerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17856065886658369543noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8690322262188269832.post-7567438546338830402010-11-15T11:11:00.001-08:002010-11-15T11:11:53.515-08:00AMAZING STORY!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 140px; height: 216px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Jdgk8NUCxCCsFDNCpb3vDZMwG3wJiM3NC32DK5972-2gBNpmGwEXbsSObhDC9NxNXm6Fwvl-rhnqTHeef8EcpPRgVd1dIYGgGgjeo5h0Mzjn8k4PI_OjrbcTNZAada3yIEnITjbXNEIy/s320/_140_245_Book.273.cover.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539856216617846642" />Heaven is for Real
by Todd Burpo

This is an amazing story! I laughed, I cried, and I'm still trying to comprehend the “adventure” of little Colton. During a major surgery where Colton was very near death, he actually got to visit heaven for a little while. Written by his father, a pastor, the references Colton makes to what heaven was like and the events that took places are backed up by amazing scripture. From the décor in heaven, the clothes Jesus wears and His physical characteristics, relatives Colton met for the first time, and events described in Revelations, no comment about heaven made by Colton is inaccurate. It takes a little boy to make us remember that modern day miracles do happen.

I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE! It is short and has short chapters. It moves right along and left me amazed. My husband and I have talked about whether we will know each other in heaven, and I truly think we will after reading this book. I can't wait to look up a picture referenced in the book by a little girl who has also been to heaven. Please read this if you get a chance!

Thanks Thomas Nelson!!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program.
