Learning to Cook one Recipe a Week

I am trying one new recipe a week, starting about four weeks ago. So far I have made...

Spinach Tortellini Soup
Delicious and easy!

Shrimp Curry with Rice
I think that recipe is in the recycling. And I made it on a night George's parents come over...awesome.

Orange Rolls
I shared these delicious, dense, chunks of rolls with friends...to get rid of them.Yeast and I don't cooperate.

Cinnamon Swirl Bread
Yeast needs time to dissolve in water/sugar before you can use! I never thought about actually following the directions on the pack of the yeast package.

Yogurt Cream Cheese Fruit Dip
I wish you could call this one a recipe. I used 1/2 a stick of cream cheese, a few dallops of yogurt, spoonful of sugar, and a touch of vanilla. Whip it up with a blender...delicious. More spreadable after sitting out for awhile.

This week.....spaetzle! Mom sent a new noodle making device I need to try! This is also one of George's favorites.

  2. I made some cake-mix cookies last Saturday. Super easy. Mix together chocolate cake mix(I used devil's food), 1 stick of butter/margarine, 2 eggs, and 1 tsp water (yeah, like that makes a difference :) ). Roll into balls and roll in powdered sugar. Bake for 8-10 min at 350. Don't try putting them cooling racks unless you want to destroy them and be forced to eat all the duds yourself, haha. I recommend wax paper. They're basically like round brownies, yum.

  3. Megan.....cookies from a box? I just can't do it! George loves things out of a box, but I will break him of that. Maybe.
And missie, what is Heathier fried rice? Do you make it with Heath bars?

  4. Heath bar fried rice, now we're talkin!

Hey, in my defense, I wouldn't have made them from a box if you guys wouldn't have left me that cake mix when you moved. :)

I think you should break him of both the boxes and the schwan's. Hard when it's so cheap/free, but its time for a food revolution. Speaking of, have either of you seen Jamie Oliver's food revolution show yet? I'm hooked!
